Initially after staring work at Google I was pleased to see the effort taken by the management to help the employees maintain a good work life balance. Unfortunately things have changed and the work pressure is increasing every day. Now I hardly get time to spend with my family. This is making most of us dissatisfied.

I joined this company thinking that this is the best place to work in the world. Now after two years and a horrible recession I am just shattered. The laedership failed to deliver at the required time and the company has become just like any other company. The spirit it had is now lost.

Coming here back then was an easy roll from university campus as the Googleplex had same kind of vibe and the mood was so enthusiastic.
I don't think anyone is any more counting for becoming super-rich here so that game is over.
And the company is increasingly cost/profit-centric in ways that just weren't seen back even a year ago. There's been cutting and slashing of so many projects that I've lost count. It's become demoralizing actually.
It just feels more and more like any big high-tech enterprise now. Sure we still have nice perks and stuff - but it doesn't feel really "special" anymore. Just a nice place to work at...

Google is a great place to work at. We have benefits that very few in the corporate world have. Still there are times I feel like leaving. That is becuase when I joined, there was a pioneer spirit in the company. Each of us had to do different thing and there was a challange. But now it has become so big that you have to work in a specific project. Also there are so many google specific tools and frameworks that learning all of them take long time and I feel frustrated from time to time.

Google was the place I always dreamt about working and I have not been let down since I started my career here. The place has a lot of good learning opportunities for new people like me. I also like the great working atmosphere we have here and there is a great deal of fellow feeling between all my colleagues. To be honest we are having a few problems recently and some of the polish of this great company is slowly going away. In my opinion we should all try and salvage whatever good things we have still now.

Google used to be a great place to work but the management is changing all the old policies which made it fun to work here and introducing some complicated new policies. I have a child at home and the new restrictions with the flexi timing policy is really causing a lot of trouble for me because now I need to get prior approval from my manager whenever I want to work from home. Also the new policies are not very future centric and the management is concentrating on making profits in the present.

Google's a great place to be in. Some of the best engineers of our time have put in some of best pieces of infrastructure together. The atmosphere is stimulating and challenging inside. When you join Google, just consider that your education is continuing - since there is so much to learn. Google has redone almost every part of a big web system to make it cheaper and scale better.
If you are the entrepreneural type, you may find it a constraining place - with too many nosey and smart people. It takes more time to get stuff done as well. Reviews, reviews and more reviews. If you are on the right side of these reviews, your stuff ends up meeting the eyes of millions of people.
Its not necessarily the place to be in if you want to get rich fast. Think of it like education in a top university. Learn more, build a brand for yourself, come out and do something big!

My experience as an employee is like a wave which started at a high and since then has dipped a lot and now I am hoping it rises to its earlier level once again. I had a great team with some really good guys working for me before the company decided that it needs to grow and started hiring anybody. Now I am stuck with a huge team which consists of some of the most technologically weak people I know yet somehow two or three of them have managed to become favorite with the management and I am forced to refer them for raises whereas the really good guys are not getting any rewards in spite of my positive feedbacks.

I wonder at the criticism of some of the employees of Google. There is nothing in Google that is not friendly to the people who are working here. There is excellent food, free beer, and a nap time for the workers who want to take some rest. As for me I like the office gym and the massage after a hard day's work. Yeah, sure we have to do lot of travelling and sometime work real hard but I am all ready for it for the salary and the benefits are enough.
