They are depending on the North American market to drive a comeback, but have an extremely poor product portfolio, senior leadership, vision and commitment. The last 10 years has seen a steady decline in what was once a flagship American company. For example the culture and work environment is extremely poor. Typical scenarios for business as usual are routinely abusing the H1B visa system while laying off long term employees, a steady decline in benefits for professionals coupled with a steady increase of executive perks and golden parachutes and the list goes on. Sr. Management team is focused on exploiting the remnants of the Motorola brand for short term results but without the core values that once made this a great company.

I agree with the opinion:
"The people who sweet talk their way into the good book of the management get all the raises and perks. To be very honest if you are not close to your boss then you have no future in this company."

I am thinking of leaving my job at Motorola and most of my colleagues have the feel the same way. The company is making loses and while the management remains safely cushioned in their positions we have to live under the constant threat of layoffs. I have not received any raise in the last financial year and the company is cutting benefits every year. The management is still busy with their personal desires and never thinking of making changes to beat the competition. Things are simply not working for us.

I used to work in Motorola just after I finished my college but I could not stay there long because of the upstart behavior of the management guys. They seem to be under the impression that they own the cell phone market and always undermine the contributions of the employees. The people who sweet talk their way into the good book of the management get all the raises and perks. To be very honest if you are not close to your boss then you have no future in this company. I could not take this for very long and quit.

Your stay in Motorola will only be fruitful if you can wait patiently. Because the upper management and the mid-management has made it their main work to see that only people who scratch their back get promoted. It does not matter whether you are capable or ready for the job; as long as you can grease your way up, you will progress in Motorola. Add to it the constant sword of outsourcing hanging over your head. No wonder Motorola is going downhill!

Motorola is actually too global a company for a woman with a family like me. The company always forces me to go to different places for work which is making me think of leaving my job since my family is suffering due to all this. There are a lot of people who can do this type of frequent travelling but they are mostly their manager??™s favorite and are allowed to work comfortably in their offices. My manager is not at all positive towards me and always tries to put me down in front of others and though I do most of the grunt work I see the perks going to other people.

If you want to keep your family happy then Motorola is the place to be. You get a chance to work in one of the globally leading companies yet you are never worried about work. The atmosphere at Motorola allows you to work according to your desired schedule. Yet the pay is great. The exposure to different technologies at Motorola is a good experience. The company also helps you to get training in different areas if you are interested. Though I am not with it anymore, but I must confess that my time in Motorola has shaped my experience and my career to a great degree.
