It is difficult to work in a place like Safeway mainly because you are always reminded by your boss that you need to do more. However hard I try it is never enough for my manager and she keeps yelling at me for performing better. Sometimes I feel that she is mad because only an insane person would behave in the way that she does with me. I am totally exhausted by all her demands and I am going to get out of here fast.

I worked here shortly after I graduated from college and was very impressed by the amount of time that Safeway spent on training and educating new employees about the company. I also thought it was cool that the company is always coming up with new ideas to possibly implement. The only down side that I really experienced was that you have to have some self control because there was lots of free food around and we were right across from a mall . If you like to shop, it is tempting to just pop in. There is also a brand new gym which corporate employees have access to. Seeing your boss sweat just like everybody else can be fun.
I recommend this company all the time to recent grads who are looking for a job. The company is big enough to have openings often. (This may not be so true now that we are in a recession.) Also, the company has a really good summer internship program that often leads to employment after graduation. I really wish I knew about this internship program when I was still in college.

Safeway needs to change soon or it will be very difficult for it to exist. The place is like a ghetto where I feel as if someone is watching me all the time and my manager is always breathing down my neck to tell me this is a place for work and not for making friends. I personally believe that a friendly and open atmosphere would help us do our job better but the management sticks to its rules and treats everyone coldly. Also favoritism is rampant and I get to see a lot of inefficient people getting promoted while the deserving ones are left frustrated.

Safeway is a very difficult place to work because of the weird attitude of our management who believe in keeping the office atmosphere impersonal and do not encourage inter office friendships and distance themselves from the general employees. We also have other policies which make me feel like I move into another century as soon as I enter my office. The management needs to change with the times and take a look into the friendly atmosphere in other offices.

At Safeway you can make or break your career because the place has a very flexible outlook and it is totally up to you to decide whether you are going to work hard or just laze around. The grocery industry is not a very happening place to work but I always used my free time to enhance my educational qualifications which helped me to move out of the stores and get into the offices. The salary I earn here keeps me pretty happy but I feel the company can give us some better dental and medical benefits. Lastly I think the company can do away with the formal dressing.
